25th February: Week one introduction

Week 1: Today was more of an introduction and an overview session of the semester. Overall I think this class is going to be one of my favourites and will teach me information that will be implemented in the outside world. I also think this class will be very practical and less theory/essays and more actually talking to one another and getting feedback. We spent most of the session going over the assessments and what is required of us. The idea of having two assessments and them being combined is really exciting. I like the idea of making some sort of poster as one assessment and also making a blog for the other assessment, instead of finishing one assessment and jumping straight into another assessment with no association to the other. Ive already sorted a plan for the blogging process and will always make a written post and sometimes have it followed by a small video for more in-depth discussions. For assessment one we have been given mental health and oral health as themes and I have decided to focus on mental health as I think there are too many people suffering from undetected mental illness. I also believe that there are people In the world that do not see mental illness as a health issue because you can’t see it. This isn’t to say it is not there and yes many people in today’s society are coming to grips with mental illness but there are still some people out there that suffer from feelings of depression which they think is normal. I also have the idea of my topic being about substance abuse in relation to mental illness. Substance abuse, as mental illness its self is too broad and I also strongly believe the two have a strong relation to one another. I also believe that New Zealand has an issue with substance abuse which needs addressing. Overall I have a small idea about assessment one which I will develop in following weeks and for the blog, well here we are. Session one on the 25th of February, done and dusted. This session for me has been very insightful and im excited for the future weeks.

Later today I also made an account with WordPress which is where I will be posting weekly
