Week 7-Day one

The beginning of class we had a discussion about the next classes and what we will be doing, after today there will be a 3 week gap which means a long time apart however we have a lot of time to develop questions for when we get back for our one on ones. The rest of the session we spent going over presentations. When watching other presentations it made me realise the things I was missing , therefore freaking me out a little but at the same time this was a good thing as I was able to reflect on this and I am able to develop me ideas further after my presentation.

Overall my presentation was not great as I got vey flustered and skipped half of my slides as I kind of went off on a tangent. I spoke too quickly and missed most of my information which was upsetting as the most important information was not discussed. The feedback given initially was that my colour choice was hard to read so as a result of this I will have a run through of my final presentation well before I have to present. I also do not have a formal definition of an alcoholic, so I need to generate that information and include it into my poster/banner so that people can compare their alcohol consumption. I have also realised I need to have more links between alcoholism and mental health as the two are strongly linked yet I am not linking them. Over the uni holidays I will spend a decent amount of time coming up with questions to ask Laurent and Amanda so that my final presentation can be as successful as possible.

Week 6- day one

Week 6- Day one

This morning we went over blog posts and how some are not active and cannot be seen, this included my post. Laurent then showed us how to change the setting and what is nessaacy for a successful blog/post. This was very helpful as online there are now guides to follow which should hopefully improve our blogs. The idea of blogging is in place in order to self-reflect and to improve our learning and how to develop our own ideas and what not. As I have finished my week 7 presentation I placed it into google drive in order to meet the brief which is to have our slides already online therefore not having to download. I was concerned I wouldn’t be able to figure this out however it was relatively straight forward. I opened google drive, selected google slides and then attached my slides which were on my laptop from Microsoft presentation. From this point the slides were downloaded onto google drive and saved which means I am then able to post the link directly onto MeWe. For a little section of the class, Laurent and Amanda went over what is needed for our presentations next week. From the information given I had to go back and fix a few things, e.g I did not reference one part of my presentation. I edited my slides and then had to re upload the final presentation to google drive. Later today I will take a little video of my presentation on google drive and show what I have achieved so far. I think this is important as at this point I would say my presentation is completed but I may change some things before the actual presentation next Monday. Majority of the class, we went over presentations and data needed etc. this was very interesting and gave us a lot of critical information which I will take on board for the presentation. One of the key facts that I found very important today is the use of images and words and how a person may interpret the information. Because of this when it comes to my verbal presentation I will double check all words used and images and try to see what others may see. Does the word have another meaning and may someone interpret the images in a different than me.

Week 5- Day 1

Todays class was very interesting! We went over online platforms and when is the best time to post information and how it benefits posts and what not. This is a vital piece of information when it comes to our own initiative as if we are posting on an online platform  then it is very important it is posted at the right time and place in order to reach the target audience. We also learnt a lot about taking videos and photos based off lighting, how to hold the phone and the placement of the photo/ video, making sure it is all lined up. We did a small activity where we had to find the letters of our name from different objects around the university and take a perfect photo. This was a lot harder then it sounds. Overall this activity shows us all the precautions we have to look out for in the future.I had to leave the class early as I had to get to an appointment which meant I missed the second activity. However, from what I briefly gathered, the activity was to take a video and focus on what we had just learn and incorporate sound.

Week 4 blog- day one

Here is a small video showing the difference in my presentation slides.

I was unable to attend today’s lecture as I am unwell so I spent some time working on the slides and will go over notes that are posted later today. As I have missed today’s class I will sadly fall behind slightly which I am worried about however after next weeks class I will do my best to catch up and find out what I have missed.

Week 3- Day one

Week 3- day one
Before class I submitted my presentation slides to the class MeWe page, I also went over my notes for the slides and what to say. Overall I absolutely hate verbal presentations so I am not looking forward to class from that respect but I am also looking forwards to seeing others present their ideas and also getting feedback for myself as at the minute I am stuck on where to continue. I also posted my slides to my blog. The first half of the session we went through everyones verbal presentations. When it comes to my presentation I am not happy about it at all. I  feel like I was not to the point with what I was trying to say and left my notes at my desk so I had to stop and get them which made me lose my trail of thought. Id probably give my performance a 2 out of 10. My feedback given was that it was hard to read which I agree with, the colours did not really work together on the projector and it was hard to read, the font was too thin so I may change it to bold. Also need to include references for future.
Before my next presentation:
 1- change the background colour

2- make the font bolder

3- use less text

4- include more statistics

5- reference everything
I have been suggested to try a black background with my text coloured, but make it a lighter colour, as well as the type face and shape etc. I will also be strongly including the banner on TradeMe, as well as NZ herald. When looking back Over my strengths and weaknesses, I think a strength was the background information I had gotten about why I had chosen what I had and that I knew what I wanted to be focusing on as well as where it would be promoted. This worked for me as it meant although my performance was not good, the information given as relatively heading in the right direction and the class was able to imagine what I was trying to say.
Towards the end of the session, Amanda went over whats real and not online, this was super helpful as it reminded us all, that not everything we read online is real and that we always need to analysis critically and how we should include this in our presentations and ideas.

Week Two-Day one

Week two- Day one

Today before class, I continued to work on my slides for the presentation in week three. Per slide I am explaining my target audience and why I have done what I have done. On a seperate word document I have started my poster/banner/ ad which will be posted on the side on NZ herald as my target audience are people of an older generation. I know with this statement I will need to find proof that people of an older generation are most likely looking at the New Zealand herald website, rather than a site like facebook and instagram, etc.. Personally my dad reads the NZ herald every day and is his opening screen on his laptop. In this case, I feel like having the ad on the side would be successful as it would be a prominent document on the screen and would hopefully draw people in. I would want to create an initiative that would help every generation, but my target audience is refined, this is purely for advertisement purposes.

Over the weekend I had been feeling a little under the weather with constant headaches and not feeling 100% so for me, class was a little harder than I thought it would be as I didn’t want to strain myself.

Today I gathered information and statistics about my target audience. According to health.govt.nz, one in five adults drink alcohol in a hazardous way so from this point I would like to see how many people that suffer from hazardous drinking also suffer with mental illness in some way. I think this is kind of a scary statistic as one in five is a very high percentage of alcoholism. During class we went over Mewe and how it works as well as looking at the previous years google communities. As a class we made a little video to introduce ourselves to the south campus, Laurent then taught us how to send videos and things from our phones directly to Mewe and other apps which will be a very useful tool for the future. I airdropped the video from my phone, to my laptop and then uploaded it which took a lot longer than it would have If I had followed his method.

Week one- Day three

Today I began working on my slides for the presentation in week 3. This was a very interesting step as I was able to put some of my ideas onto a document and look at the gaps that I needed to research on. After starting the introduction side, I realised that the colours look aesthetically pleasing, however I wanted to change the font as I felt it was a down fall. This brought up a little problem as I know I can’t just change the font for the looks of things and because I personally don’t like the them. After coming to this road block I started some research and was looking up fonts that people with mental illnesses and alcoholism (changed from binge drinking) are more susseptable to, however there is little research about fonts and how they are interpreted.  This lead me to believe that people of mental illnesses and alcoholism do not mind what font they read. The only bit of information I have gathered is that I should not use more than three fonts on a document otherwise people may not want to read the information. After further research I have decided to change the font based  off the emotion I want the reader to be feeling. I have gone for the font called Georgia italic which makes the reader feel “comfort” and as a health promotion agency I would want clients to feel comfortable. After sorting the opening slide, I moved on to the second which has got me thinking about who I want my target audience to be and where I want my initiative to be displayed etc.

Week one- Day Two

This morning I spent some time going over colour wheels and gathering information based on my wanted topic- mental abuse In association to substance abuse in particaicular binge drinking. I have decided to focus on this topic as New Zealand is known for its binge drinking culture (find the link at the bottom) and I am personally very interested in this topic. As a result of binge drinking, mental illness is very likely to occur due to the reprocussions (see link at the bottom of the document). This can also be said for mental illness influencing people to turn to substance abuse/ binge drinking. As a result of this focal area, I decided to look into the colours I thought would be associated to this topic. What I found is that almost every website has a different colour associated to a disorder. After looking at many website and reading through, I have decided to use the colour purple as a link to mental disorder as this colour is the main colour shown on ‘mental health foundation’ which is the main organisation helping New Zealanders with their illness. I think purple is the best colour to use as if I were to implement a health initiative involved with mental health then this organisation would be involved in some way or another. When looking at substance abuse, the colours most prominently shown were teal and silver and as a result of this, I will be using the two colours. However, there were other websites showing different colours which I found was an obstacle, butI have chosen teal and silver as I personally think the colours have a strong tie to substance abuse and when I think of substance abuse, I visualise these colours. Binge drinking is associated to green within New Zealand so for the main binge drinking sections/ lettering I will be using green as the focal colour.
